AKO and Nedap Beveiligingstechniek (NBT) have signed a co-operation agreement for the supply of Electronic Article Surveillance systems combined with customer counting in most of the AKO branches in the Netherlands. Installation will begin in the fourth quarter of 2008 and should be completed in the first quarter of 2009.
Both parties are delighted with the deal. Nedap's systems will fit seamlessly with AKO's progressive professionalisation and future way of working. The role of information within the AKO organisation is increasing in importance, and so with the integration of customer counting into the Nedap EAS system, AKO will kill two birds with one stone. On the one hand, losses will be tackled using the latest digital electronic technology, and, on the other, the customer statistics will be delivered automatically every day. Combined with other data from the stores, such as sales figures and hours worked, this will allow immediate action to be undertaken. Moreover, the systems are fitted with advertising panels that allow posters to be easily positioned in the antennae. AKO (Amsterdamsche Kiosk Onderneming) was founded in 1878 for the sale of newspapers, magazines and books. The AKO shops are distributed throughout the Netherlands at high-traffic sites, such as all the major railway stations and at all four airports: Schiphol, Rotterdam, Eindhoven and Maastricht-Aachen, as well as at prestigious A1 sites in the major shopping streets of the Netherlands. Besides books, magazines, newspapers and comic books, AKO offers a wide range of stationery articles, greetings cards and convenience items such as tobacco, confectionery, soft drinks and lottery tickets. AKO also offers 24/7 service via the internet shop at www.ako.nl. The FLEUReas system has been developed within the client group of Retail Support, and has the potential to blossom and grow for the retailer: from the basic system, it can be comprehensively extended modularly with EAS, advertising panels, foil lined bag detection, customer counting and other forms of EASi/Net management information. This system owes its popularity to the combination of a unique growth path and outstanding system performance. Download press release (pdf)
